Any recommendations for webmastering software?

I am the webmaster for an organization at my school. A design has not been chosen, yet alone anything else. All I know so far is that they want information and a small photo gallery. (Meaning that is is probably not going to be too complex) I need a program that is user-friendly and would help make a transition between webmasters easy for the upcoming years. Currently I am leaning toward dreamweaver because that is one of the programs I used when learning webmastering in high school, but I’m not sure if it is the best choice. Also, cost does not play a huge role in selection because the school pays. Any suggestions?

Dreamweaver is great and is probably the choice of the majority of web designers. Another program gaining in popularity is Nvu. I personally have not tried it, but I know a former professor of mine recommended it to a friend. You might want to download a copy and try it to see if it might be easier to learn than DW to facilitate transitioning from person to person.
Another thought on DW, if you plan on using a template for the site to help maintain consistency and make updating easier, then as long as the new webmaster was familiar with using templates, switching over should be a piece of cake.

Dreamweaver’s the most popular program out there because it’s good at what it does and not too hard to learn. If you’re familiar with it and it won’t cost you, that’s more points in its favor. For a club website, it’s much more than adequate.
Acquire a free-downloadable Netscape browser, with its built-in Composer feature which is a superior HTML authoring tool. Composer reads and edits any HTML-based webpage or website. You can easily generate a full-blown website using Composer and anyone else who is given the task to update a webpage can readily use Composer with little or no learning curve.
Unfortunately, DreamWeaver has far too much coding
than is necessary for supporting an HTML website and it’s a fairly expensive piece of software from Adobe.
Good luck!
